Nasimi by day

Samer is away on a business trip and I’m flying solo for the long weekend in Dubai.  A very good friend called to treat me to a belated birthday pedicure followed by lunch.  Our location of choice was the Atlantis Spa as they offer the renowned Bastien Gonzalez pedicure (also available at the One & Only Royal Mirage).  This is a pedicure like no other and a must for anyone who is serious about their toes.  It’s an hour long “medical” treatment designed by a podiatrist that focuses on eliminating all of the rough patches of skin and bringing the nails back to a healthy natural shine.  This is an excellent treatment for men though it may take more than an hour if it’s your first time getting a pedicure.

After our pedi’s and a short rest in the spas relaxation lounge we headed over to the Nasimi Beach restaurant for a bite.   Nasimi has a relaxed vibe and is an all day/all night venue located beachfront on the Atlantis property.  You can lounge around under the umbrellas on the beach and work on your tan or sit on the terrace and watch the view.  At night, it turns into more of a party spot with music, international dj’s and an outdoor bar.  We chose a spot on the terrace strategically positioned to catch a breeze and observe the scenery while we had our lunch.

The Nasimi menu is a mix of cuisines from sushi, to pastas, thai curries and burgers.   I would predominantly categorize the menu items as snacks, but there is a lot of choice and the portions are generous.  We decided to share the calamari starter and ordered the wagyu burgers for our mains.

The calamari was a little disappointing as it arrived in unnaturally uniform rounds and contained more breading than actual squid.  The accompanying lemon aioli was also very eggy.  The wagyu burgers however were exceptional.  Topped with beef bacon, cheese and accompanied by onion rings, spicy fries, and guacamole – they are fantastic.  My companion found the meat slightly peppery for her personal taste but she polished off the entire plate of fries with gusto.

Nasimi is a great option if you want to grab a casual meal, drink or shisha and listen to some sounds.  I think next time I’ll bring my bikini and catch some rays on the loungers.  Last piece of advice – make a reservation in advance (unless you’re staying at the hotel) otherwise you are likely to get harassed by security more than once on the way in.

Calamari – 45 dhs
Burger – 95 dhs
